E.I. (emotional intelligence)
This collection is a portrait and self portrait series based off of elements of emotional growth, and the development of emotional intelligence.
This is my journey to being completely healed.
All writing is my own, unless cited.
My own intelligence looked me in the eyes and told my heart it wasn’t right anymore.
Practical reasoning didn’t matter in love,
but here I sat, alone. Left. No more fight.
It came down to a day that I never could have stomached all the years prior. That moment stung, and all the pieced-together, ripped and tattered dreams I was desperately trying to hold, suddenly released from my hands.
There are rolling tides in pain. But at some point, the tide pulls you back out.
You drift back out into the oblivion of denial, while holding onto the pieces of home you still have. It’s cold. It’s scary. It’s dark.
You become so tired holding onto that piece of home, that it ends up coming to life and carries you in its own strength,
to make sure you stay afloat until the tide comes back in.
And it does. And you make it through another day.
When the push into a great unknown forces you to become the best swimmer you’ve ever been,
that is growth.
When the mistakes of your past become lessons learned for your future,
you have grown.
When you can look back at your heartbreak and feel happy that it happened, because without that pain,
you never would love yourself like you do today.
That was the thing about her,
she had an army behind her.
When her strength was wrung dry,
she leaned on the warriors behind her.
They lifted her up, and replenished her so she could stand on her own again.
She became resilient. A fighter, a warrior in her own skin.
